Comunidad

Philanthropy of Pi Lambda Chi Latina Sorority, Inc.

The Mission of ΠΛΧ articulates two central elements of our sisterhood: education and community service.  Naturally, we spend much of our time volunteering in communities surrounding our campuses in an effort to encourage young Latinos to attend and succeed in higher education.

Our constitution mandates that sisters perform at least one community service project per semester and a national project per school year.  All of our sisters go well beyond this minimum.  Much of our community service projects are education related.  They include mentoring at nearby schools, presenting at the Colorado Parent Coalition Conference, hosting prospective college students, voter education, literacy programs, and volunteering at local recreational centers.

Each year ΠΛΧ participates in the Colorado La Raza Youth Conference.  This conference invites young Latinos in middle school and high school from all over Colorado to participate in a daylong conference held at Auraria Campus in the heart of downtown Denver.  This event serves as our national community service project and is special because it brings all of our chapters together.

ΠΛΧ is the largest volunteer group for the Conference and for the last couple of years we have also been presenters at the Conference.  Our theme is Preserving Latina Culture Through College and we present in both English and Spanish.  Our goal is to provide positive role models to young Latinas, discuss college life for Latinas, and offer information about applying to college.
